The ice giant of Valmalenco. Its crevasses, the blue shades of the ice, and the lake below tell the story of the fragility of an ecosystem in transformation

One of the most spectacular treks in Lombardy, the Fellaria Glacier is an unmissable experience for those who love true mountain landscapes, wide open spaces, and the emotions that only high altitude can offer.
Although retreating, the glacier still preserves its glacial charm: seracs, waterfalls, and meltwater lakes. The final stretch provides a close-up view of the glacier, where you can admire the ice tongue and perhaps spot some ibex.
MEETING POINTS:
6:15 am – Carrefour Como parking lot
7:00 am – Bione Lecco parking lot
(Contact us for other arrangements)
HIKE START: 9:00 am
EQUIPMENT: standard hiking gear (see “useful info” page)
LUNCH: packed lunch
COST: €30.00
END OF HIKE: around 3:00 pm
The hike begins at Campo Moro: after crossing the dam of the same name, we climb up to Rifugio Bignami along a trail overlooking the lake. From there, following the Glaciological Trail, we can trace the geological history of the Earth and reflect on the ongoing effects of climate change.
The path becomes rougher and more uneven, but the effort is quickly rewarded: before us opens the basin of the Fellaria glacial lake, at 2,600 meters. Here, the glacier reveals one of its still-visible tongues – just a portion of the immense glacier stretching across the Bernina massif. The meltwater lake, formed by the slow retreat of the ice, creates a truly breathtaking alpine scene.
To make the experience even more authentic, it is often possible to spot ibex, the true lords of these mountains, moving with agility among the rocks.
After a well-deserved rest in this corner of high mountains, we return along the same path, with the option of stopping again at Rifugio Bignami for a moment of relaxation before concluding this intense and unforgettable day.
