On one of the most iconic peaks of Lake Como, along a technical and fun trail

One of the most iconic peaks of Lake Como, a very enjoyable climb with one of the most spectacular views of the entire Lario.
We will ascend via the “Direttissima” trail with some easy rocky passages and descend along the most scenic side towards Mount Bregagno, before returning to Rifugio Menaggio.

We start from the parking area above Monti di Breglia, where we will leave the car. From here, we begin our ascent along the trail that crosses a beautiful birch forest, following the signs for Rifugio Menaggio. After about 45 minutes of walking (altitude 1,120 m), we will ignore some side paths and continue on the comfortable trail that gradually climbs as it loops around the valley. In about 1h15–1h30 we will reach the refuge, located on a panoramic grassy ridge.
From the refuge, we take the well-marked trail leading to the via ferrata, heading northwest toward the watershed between the eastern and southern slopes of Monte Grona. The path winds its way between grassy ledges and rocky sections until reaching the ridge. Here we turn right onto the Direttissima trail, entering a steep gully that we climb up to the notch between the ridge and the summit, with the evocative “Denti della Grona” (“Teeth of Grona”) to our left.
Once at the notch (about 1 hour from the refuge), we tackle the final section with the help of a short chain, reaching the summit of Monte Grona in just a few minutes.
After enjoying the unique panorama that this peak offers, we descend along a more scenic route toward Monte Bregagno. We will not climb to the top of Bregagno but instead return in the direction of Rifugio Menaggio. After one last glance at the Bellagio peninsula, we follow the same trail used for the ascent back down to the cars.
