Loop hike on Sasso Gordona, a striking pyramid-shaped mountain that dominates the lower Val d’Intelvi. On its slopes you can still find several fortifications dating back to the First World War, part of the historic “Cadorna Line.” The itinerary is fun and varied, with a few short sections equipped with chains.

To reach our starting point we will drive up the Val d’Intelvi; as soon as we enter the valley, the Sasso Gordona (1410 m) will immediately stand out with its unmistakable profile. Once at Pian delle Alpi, a barbecue area above Cerano Intelvi, we will begin the ascent through steep woods leading to Rifugio Prabello, a former Guardia di Finanza barracks. After a short break, we will continue with the enjoyable climb to Sasso Gordona, along a few easy rocky sections equipped with chains. At the end of the ridge, we’ll be welcomed by a large cross on the summit, where a stunning 360° panorama opens over Italy and Switzerland, including part of Lake Como and Swiss peaks such as Monte Generoso.
After lunch, we will descend on the opposite side of the mountain, reaching the fortifications of the old Cadorna Line. From there, we’ll reconnect with the same trail to return to our cars. Before heading back, we will visit the tiny and characteristic village of Erbonne, home to a small museum dedicated to the Guardia di Finanza and smuggling history.
